Smart Lift & Mobility World 2024: Anacam, EFESME and India strengthened relations, by the author Paolo Tattoli
In the complex framework of events focusing on the world of lifts worldwide, Anacam has decided to focus on quality and novelty.
Among the events chosen to characterise its presence was Smart Lift & Mobility World 2024, which took place in Bangalore, India, from 1 to 3 March. Anacam, which was an international partner of this first edition of SL&MW, was represented by myself and participated with an institutional stand. Also present was EFESME President Massimo Bezzi, who was invited to attend the opening ceremony.
The subtitle of Smart Lift & Mobility World 2024, 'An Integrated Expo for Building Access and People Flow', offers a clear indication of the event's central themes. The event highlighted emerging technologies and best practises to ensure safe and convenient access to all buildings, as well as better management of people flow.
The organisers combined several events into one.
First an international expo, then an interactive summit with several very interesting and noteworthy speeches, an Elevator Awards ceremony, and an unprecedented global initiative: the Elevator Safety Run.
Smart Lift & Mobility World 2024 was an exceptional opportunity for all stakeholders to experience cutting-edge technologies, enrich their knowledge and skills, receive awards and participate in extensive lift safety awareness campaigns. The event was also a valuable opportunity to better understand the characteristics of the Indian lift market, a sector that is expanding rapidly thanks to the support of local authorities, the arrival of new foreign players, and growing urbanisation. India has, in fact, about 1.4 billion inhabitants, slightly more than China, on a land area equal to one third of that of China.
Expo
The expo, the exhibition part of the event, provided a great opportunity for manufacturers, component manufacturers, service providers, and other lift-related companies to showcase their products, technologies, and services. It also allowed visitors to explore various offers, meet possible new partners, compare solutions, and learn about new approaches in an ever-changing world and sector. Particular attention was paid to small and medium-sized companies which, thanks to their flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to new market trends, are able to offer innovative and customised solutions, satisfying the most advanced customer requirements and promoting technological progress in the sector.
Summit
The Elevator World India Summit 2024 provided an opportunity to explore the challenges and opportunities facing the lift industry. During the event, eminent industry experts discussed, from an inclusive and sustainable perspective, how technological and digital advancements will affect the future of lifts. Roundtables, presentations and information sessions enriched the industry with new perspectives and valuable insights.
Awards
The India Elevator Awards 2024 paid tribute to the leading developers, architects and operators in the vertical and horizontal transportation industry who have played a key role in enabling the integration of the latest technological advancements, applying them right from the planning stage and delivering exclusive projects with innovations that have effectively raised the standards of accessibility, mobility, inclusiveness, sustainability and safety.
Safety Run
The Elevator Safety Run, a unique initiative of its kind, was open to participants from all over the world who were able to participate both in person and virtually. The aim of the race was to promote lift safety and raise awareness about this crucial aspect.
Networking - EFESME meets EECMAI, an opportunity for dialogue
During the 2024 edition of Smart Lift & Mobility World, which took place in Bangalore from 1 to 3 March, EFESME and its President, Massimo Bezzi, had the opportunity to meet the Indian association EECMAI and its President, Suraj Thodimarath.
EECMAI, the Elevator & Escalators Component Manufacturers' Association of India, represents component manufacturers in India, supporting safety and quality standards and the development of a network both nationally and internationally.
On the occasion of the meeting, the two Presidents spoke about the various dossiers that EFESME is following, developing and carrying forward at both a European and international level, and not only in relation to standardisation. Among the various in-depth topics worth mentioning are those on digitisation, intelligent lifts and the role of small and medium-sized European lift companies not only within the EU. The Presidents spoke about the possibility of organising other meetings and events together, especially technical ones, on the above points, from standardisation and its most recent innovations, to the importance of the digital world and means in our sector.
Other points of interest on which to work together are new technologies, the most innovative projects within the elevator sector, and the increasingly greater relevance of the green transition, often understood as parallel to the digital one, and certainly a great challenge for everyone. The proposal, put on the table by EFESME, was well received by EECMAI, also in the wake of the positive and interesting event organised together in May 2023, the EFESME-NAEC-EECMAI webinar "A comparison between the main lift standards in the US, the EU, and India".
The meeting was a crucial opportunity to reaffirm the goodness of the relationships between the two associations. EFESME considers the relationship with other associations very important, also outside Europe, in order to open new paths and opportunities to defend and spread the voice of small and medium-sized European lift companies, in foreign markets too, thanks to the quality of their work. It is also essential to support the activities of component manufacturing SMEs, through our presence as a Federation and their representation at an international level, not only on technical-regulatory tables, but also in creating networks and positive circles of exchange of information and opportunities.
